Be intentional

By Gary Irvine

Since I began managing our accreditation program it seemed to be a daunting task at times. I have learned one very important factor – be intentional with your daily activities.

I’m an avid podcast listener, especially when it comes to business and leadership. One of the topics that is thrown around now is being intentional in everything you do. I bring this up because, as it is with many people, the activities of maintaining a Quality Management System (QMS) may take a backseat during the busy season, and before you know it, there’s lots of catching up to do. Being intentional about your QMS is just as important as any other activity but often put off until later.

On a weekly basis, our laboratory staff now reviews all upcoming activities relating to our QMS and we take whatever steps necessary to complete those tasks. This is made easier now that everyone receives an email notification in addition to having a group discussion on upcoming activities.

Daily to-do items

In next week’s blog I’m going to drill down on the subject of daily to-do items and ways to be more efficient with your time. This is a work in progress for me, so I’ll share what I’m learning as I continue this journey.
